Dave and Paula met in South Florida and were married in 1978.
At that time, neither were Christians. In 1980, Paula was presented
the gospel by her brother and came to faith. Paula's testimony
and daily faith were instruments of God to bring Dave to faith
in 1984.
The Heberts have been active in Evangelism Explosion, youth
and college ministry, music ministry and were involved in assisting
PCA church planting in Broward County, Florida. Dave had a background
in most phases of the construction industry, is a former professional
musician, and is a ruling elder in the South Florida Presbytery.
In 1988 the Heberts heard missionary Fred Reid speak about
missions in a Florida PCA church. God used the Reids to challenge
Dave and Paula to consider the lost millions in Japan and how
they might be a part of the ministry of evangelism there. The
Heberts first went to Japan in 1990 as short term missionaries
and spent 2 years in Nagoya. There they were involved in college
ministry, teaching English and music outreaches. Dave also directed
a homestay program, sending Japanese to visit America and live
with American Christian families.
Since joining the MTW Tokyo team in Japan as career missionaries,
the Heberts have been mostly active in college ministry. Dave
ministered on Chiba University, oversaw short term missionaries,
led worship and helped train nationals for the corporate worship
ministry, and worked with Presbyterian Church in Japan (PCJ)
churches, as well as with new church plants. Dave and Paula
feel one of their most effective means of evangelism is through
their home and family in their neighborhood. Their goal has
always been to have Japanese in their home and surround them
with the love of Christ.
Dave and Paula have 4 children: Jodye (10/29/82) studying
at Covenant College, Alyssa (8/7/86), Andrew (7/8/91) and Jordan
(11/10/98).
Your prayers for the Hebert family as they fill these various
roles would be greatly appreciated.
Update:
The Heberts need about $900 more financial support per month
